One day around Prizren - Kosovo

Europe's youngest nation, Kosovo, declared independence 10 years ago.



During the day of the celebrations I had the chance to take part in the celebrations in Prizren (Feb, 2018), the once cultural and intellectual centre of Ottoman Kosovo.



I travelled for a day (and a night) from the Albanian capital of Tirana, bus tickets were easy and cheap to get from Tirana Metropol Agency just behind the Tirana international hotel, this is also the location from where the bus departed the following day just before sunrise.



Tirana Metropol Agency is one of the companies that has buses traveling between Albania and Kosovo, buses depart just outside the ticket office, however it might be a good idea to confirm that this still applies. Staff spoke English for sure.





The journey took a few hours, it is important to remember to bring once passport (not all EU ID cards seemed to be accepted) as one crosses the border into Kosovo. There were a few persons on my bus that had to turn around back to Tirana after reaching the border. The journey itself is quite pretty, one travels across the mountains. In order to get into Prizren, the bus stopped at a service station near the highway and the passengers into Prizren were transferred onto mini buses completing the drive into town.

Below would be the impressions from the bus journey and a very beautiful sunny late winter day in Prizren in February 2018.
