Ilhéu das Rolas - Walking on the equator

Just south of the main island of São Tomé is the Islet of Rolhas. This is where the equator passes through the nation and the line is marked out by a monument. That is probably the main sight that attracts visitors, however I found the best part of the Islet to be walking around further away to see some really impressive beaches, without a single soul around.

I arranged for transport to Rolhas from Praia Inhame, they charged 10€ for the return trip by boat, life west were included, and could be used to sit upon for a softer feel on one's butt against the rolling waves :)

The equator clearly marked out, impossible to miss, Sao Tome Island in the background (thus north of the equator)

You hear them, all the time, there are many off them, hard to catch them on camera though. Only if you stand still long enough - Ilheu das Rolas
